With the free Prey monitoring program for Windows, you install a tracking tool on your laptop, comparable to Apple’s feature. Once your device connects to the network, the open source program transmits its exact location through the WLAN or GPS receiver in case of theft.

If the stolen computer is equipped with a webcam, Prey unnoticedly shoots or photographs the offender and sends you a record. As in similar smartphone solutions, you can remotely lock the stolen device and turn on the alarm. So that you can easily move your laptop around the house or city, the security tool offers the so-called “geozone”.

In addition to the free version of Prey, you can also purchase a paid version of the Prey Pro, with which you can, for example, delete data remotely or view all the actions, for example, what data was open or which Internet connections were used. The tracking program works in the background and cannot be detected by third parties.
